Zhou Zuoren＇s translation activities are more profound and resourceful as compared with his literary writing.His thought of literal translation can be found with persistent expressions in his translation activities throughout most of his life.He sticks to literal translation without excluding the combined use of free translation,and literal translation does not equal direct translation.The point lies in how to make the translation suit the native targeted language and achieve faithfulness and expressiveness.Meanwhile,Zhou Zuoren lays emphasis on the social functions by literary translation.His idea of ＂academy to improve one＇s intelligence and literary translation to transfer one＇s appreciation taste＂ has an undoubtedly pioneering significance in the history of Chinese translation.
