The Enlightenment of Whorf's View of Meaning on Halliday's Theory of Meaning

Whorf意义观和Halliday意义理论是语言学内部既有不同之处又有相似之处的两个分支。Whorf意义观中的共同概念库、心理结、联系、隐性范畴、语言系统进化论思想与Halliday意义理论中关于概念基块、语言社会构建论、意义潜势、语法范畴意义的不可言喻性、意义进化理论具有相通之处,且前者对后者具有启示作用。

Although there are similarities and dissimilarities between Whorf＇s view of meaning and Halliday＇s theory of meaning, they are two branches of linguistics. The ideas of a common stock of conceptions, psychic complex, connection, cryptotype categories and the evolutionary theory of linguistic system in Whorf＇s view of meaning have in common with the concepts of the ideational base, social construction of language, meaning potential, the ineffability of grammatical categories and the evolutionary theory of meaning in Halliday＇s theory of meaning, and the former has important enlightenment on the latter.
