汉文化经典误读误译现象解析：以威利《论语》译本为例

On the Misinterpretation and Mistranslation of English Translation of the Chinese Classics:A Case Study of Waley's Version of The Analects

目前,学界对《论语》英译的研究大多集中在语言层面上,而关于这部儒学经典英译与中国文化传承的研究尚不多见。本研究以威利(ArthurWaley)的《论语》英译作为案例,依据意识形态操控理论,对汉文化经典英译中的误读误译现象进行了深入的探讨。研究指出:(1)汉文化经典英译的误读误译与意识形态密切相关;(2)译者在解读与翻译异域文化时,应对异域文化持尊重、平等的态度;(3)中国儒学走向世界,中国传统优秀文化的传承与传播需要儒学研究专家、外语界的共同努力。

Existing studies in the literature to date on the English translation of Lun Yu are mostly on the linguistic level. Few scholars have probed into the relationship between the English translation of Lun Yu and the transmission and succession of the Chinese culture. Taking Waley＇s version of The Analects as a sample and based on the theory of the manipulation of ideology, this study makes further explorations in the misinterpretation and mistranslation in the English translation of Chinese classics. The research findings are as follows ： 1. The misinterpretation and mistranslation in the English translation of Chinese classics are closely connected to ideology;2. When interpreting and translating meanings in a foreign euhure, translators should treat them with caution;3. Scholars working on Confucianism and translation studies should work together in the transmission and succession of the excellent traditional Chinese culture so as to make Confucianism known to the world.
