The relevance theory plays an importaut role in the understanding of discourse, reveals the basis of cognitive psychology, and explains and restricts the expression and interpretation of language. Taking the discourse of the Pride and Prejudice for example, this paper tries to explore the understanding of dialogue from the perspectives of＂ ostensive-inferennal theory, maximal relevance and cognitive context. It mainly discusses the impact of understanding of discourse based on relevance theory, pointing out the importance of the correct understanding of discourse.
