Landscape ecology is a developing branches of modern ecology in the world. It originated in the Europe, but its development were promoted by the works of South America in 1970s. In our country, landscape ecology were introduced by a few researchers in 1980s and research work were started in 1990s. In origin, it is a result of combination of landscape and ecology. In this paper, the development history of landscape and ecology were simply reviewed separately first. After that, the history of landscape ecology itself, scholar activity and international research results were summarized. Finally, its development in China were reviewed and prospected.
