摘要
近年来,英语学术语篇的人际功能及其语言体现方式已引起国内外研究者的普遍关注。鉴于抽象名词在学术语篇中的重要性,本文在以往研究的基础上,以两种应用语言学期刊中的研究论文为语料,对不同类型的抽象名词在语篇中的评价功能进行了更为深入的描述和分析。研究结果显示,由于同一学科内不同的研究取向,抽象名词的选择以及评价态势构建呈现出不同的特点。该研究在一定程度上能弥补现有研究的不足,提高人们对英语抽象名词的认识,并促进它们在实际学术写作中的应用。
In recent years, the study of academic discourse has mainly focused on various devices used to construct the evalu- ative stance in discourse, but the research concerning abstract nouns or noun groups is quite rare. Abstract nouns are usually important in academic discourse. Thus, this paper, based on the previous studies, intends to investigate the evaluative func- tion of abstract nouns, with reference to the instances identified in the two corpora of applied linguistics. Through a detailed a- nalysis, it is found that different types of abstract nouns are used to construct particular evaluative stances, and the variations identified reflect the research orientation and nature of a specific discipline.
