The Ethical Narrative in Steinbeck's Fiction

以毕生的精力探索人生的奥秘,那就是人类灵魂中的善恶斗争。正是这种矢志不渝的对人类伦理道德问题的关注,使得这位曾经在"迷茫时代"遭受冷落的道德歌手在当今人伦道德缺失的美国再度复活。本文借助文学伦理学和神话原型批评理论,对斯坦贝克的《胜负未决》、《月落》、《烈焰》、《伊甸之东》和《我们烦恼的冬天》等几部为中国评论界所忽略的中长篇小说中的伦理道德思想和叙事模式进行了阐释。

Steinbeck devoted all his life to the exploration of life mysteries, that is ： conflict of good and evil. It was this persistent concern for ethical and moral issues that made Steinbeck the moral singer who had suffered from cold treatment in the ＂lost generation＂ resurrect in the contemporary America which is witnessing a perplexing time of unethical conduct. By using theores of literary ethical criticism and archetypal criticism, this paper analyses the ethical ideas and narrative patterns of In Dubious Battle, The Moon Is Down, The Burning Bright, East of Eden and The Winter of Our Discontent.
