Since 1890, Harvard University has already set the position of university dean for managing students＇ extra-curricular life. Nowadays senior management positions of student affairs are widely established in American colleges to supervise student affairs. The development of this position has gone through three stages in the past 100 years. Its name, roles, responsibilities, status, and requirements of professional competency are constantly changing at each stage. And the driving force behind such development lies in the impact of American society, the professional development of student affairs as well as the practitioners＇ outstanding contribution.
