Summary：This article introduces key principles and novel care models of American geriatrics. Key geriatrics principles include （ 1 ） patient-centered healthcare with comprehensive management of not only acute and chronic diseases, but also social, environmental ,psychological ,psychiatric and behavioral issues tailored to the need of individual older persons ; （ 2 ） continuity of care ; （ 3 ） muhidisciplinary collaboration and interdisciplinary team approach ; （4） recovery and maintenance of functional independence and quality of life. Contemporary geriatric care models include acute care for the elderly （ACE） unit,geriatric hip fracture service,geriatric subacute care and transitional care,program of all-inclusive care for the elderly （PACE）, and continuing care retirement communities （CCRC）.
