An Interpretation of the Psychology of Chinese American Daughters in The Joy Juck Club

美国华裔文学中华裔儿女大多排斥自己的族裔文化传统,而认同美国的价值观念,他们甚至憎恶自己的华裔身份,消极地评价自我,否定自我。这种心理正是在美国出身、成长的华裔在强大的种族歧视和同化压力下自卑心理的表现。以阿德勒的个体心理学理论为依据,以美国华裔女作家谭恩美的小说《喜福会》为例,我们可以看出华裔儿女的自卑心理及其成因、表现、后果,更为重要的是他们对自卑的补偿和超越。

In Chinese American literature,most of Chinese American children reject their own cultural tradition and cater to American values.Even more,they display negative self-evaluation,self-hatred and self-denial.This is the reflection of Chinese American children＇s inferiority complexity when they are under the strong racial discrimination and assimilation pressure.This paper takes The Joy Luck Club as an example,with the individual psychology as the theoretical basis to interpret the psychology of Chinese American daughters from the causes,performances,consequences of Chinese American daughters＇s inferiority,and their compensation and surpassing of inferiority with the help of their Chinese mothers.
