On "Expressiveness is the Most Important" by Yan Fu

严复提出了翻译标准中"信"与"达"的关系,指出"达"是"信"的保障,"信"是"达"的最终目的。翻译中译文的通达、流畅是译文赢取读者、获取社会效益的标尺。

This paper is to clear up the relationship between ＂faithfulness＂ and ＂expressiveness＂ put forward by Yan Fu.,which points out that ＂expressiveness＂ is the guarantee of ＂faithfulness＂ while the latter is the ultimate goal of the former. Fluent and ease translation is the only scale to be recognized by the reader and to get the social effect.
