The Reasons on the Prosperity of Shanxi Book-engraving Industry During Liao and Jin Dynasty

辽金两朝虽是北方游牧民族建立的政权,但其统治者较重视汉族文化,大力推行教育,促进了文化的发展,因此辽金时期的刻书业也不容忽视。而山西地区作为辽金两朝的文化中心,其刻书业更是技术精良,市场繁荣,还有稀世精品留传至今,对后世图书文化事业影响深远。推动辽金时期山西刻书业繁荣的原因在于:一是辽金统治者重视儒学、利用宗教、发展教育,促进了文化的繁荣;二是山西地区文人辈出的人文环境;三是山西地区特产丰富的地理环境。

Although the power being established by northern horde,the rulers of Liao and Jin Dynasty attached importance to Han ethnic group＇s culture and carried out education with great effort,which promoted the development of culture.In this way,the book-engraving industry of Liao and Jin Dynasty should be neglected.As the cultural centre of both Liao and Jin dynasties,Shanxi area has been found a place rich of rare treasure of book-engraving relics as their advanced technology and prosperous market,which put great influence upon the development of book culture of later generations.Three reasons accout for the prosperity of Shanxi book-engraving industry：first,the rulers of Liao and Jin Dynasty advocated confucianism and fostered education with the help of religion,all which push the prosperity of culture;second,there existed humanity surroundings of people of talent coming forth in large numbers in Shanxi area;third,Shanxi shared the geographical environment of profound specialities.
