介绍了OFC／IOOC’99截止期后论文集报道的各种利用密集波分多路的大容量、长距离光纤通信系统的实验和应用，较前者有明显进展。依次提到各种关键技术的发展，包括光时分通路、非零色散光纤、宽带光纤放大器，偏振模分散、激光管阵列、光纤光栅和阵列波导、全光再生等。最后附带提及短距光通信，包括微蜂窝光纤网、塑料光纤和光无线通信。

The paper briefly introduces the papers presented in OFC/IOOC'99, particularly about the various large-capacity long-haul optical fiber systems using DWDM. Then, it mentions the progress of some key technologies, including OTDM, NZDF, W-EDFA, PMD, WSL, FBG & AWG, and all aptical regeneration. It briefly mentions short distance optical communication, including microcellular fiber network, polymer optical fiber,and optical wireless system.
