Based on the packet voice technology studied by Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs, this paper introduces the basic techniques of ATM packet voice, the different methods to implement ATM voice, the related network models and the transmission technologies. The performance of Voice over ATM and Voice over IP are specially analyzed meanwhile some examples and conclusions are presented to give new operators references for the construction of multi - service platform. This paper is published in three instalments.
