When Li Dongsheng, Chairman of Chinese TV maker TCL Corporation (TCL), said ambitiously taht "China's TV enterprises will catch up with foreign rivals" at The International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year, Yang Dongwen, executive director of Skyworth Group (Skyworth), is worrying about the future of China's TV manufacturing industry. This moment might be the hardest time for China's TV industry. While Chinese TV makers suffered huge losses in the past year, foreign TV brands are celebrating their increases in market share. The reason is that China's TV industry still faces the old problem: it has no pricing right without control on the upstream LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel production. Thus, China's TV production has been trapped by upstream suppliers and foreign rivals. Now, there are five high generation LCD panel production lines launched in China. This means the industry will solve the panel problem in 2012. However, the Japanese and Korean leaders are releasing newer products, which may lead to price cuts of LCD TVs.What's even more surprising is that more players cannot wait to rewrite the history of TV. No matter Internet companies or hardware companies, all hurry to make their own I V with smarter technologies. Since Chinese TV makers have little cooperation with these new comers, they have to face the disappearing industrial bonder alone, with no idea who will be the next rival. Now the wall between TV industry and other industries has fallen. There are new prospect, new business models, as well as new rivals. China's TV makers can either reshape the industry or merge with new comers. The future is unknown. The choice is on their hands.
