Four principles essential for the improvement of pulping selectivity in extended delignification are discussed on the basis of empirical kinetics and pulping chemistry. Practice shows that applications of the four principles to continuous cooking (MCC,EMCC,ITC,Lo-solids)result in kappa number of pulp below 30 for softwoods without losing pulp viscosity .
