This article has conducted a two -dimensional interpretative reading to, My Last Duchess, which was composed by Robert Browning of the Victorian Age. It expounds how the Duke's monologue in the poem goes hand in hand with his act of si- lencing the others, and how the humanly freshness of the duchess'living beauty is reduced to the lifeless beauty of a mere art -work. In doing so, it is arrived that the duke~ appreciation of beauty is actually rooted in his selfish nature to take possessions, and this poem masterly uses the form of monologue to dramatically illustrate the duke's selfish nature.
