自隋初迄清末,科举制在中国延续了一千三百多年。期间,该制度在完善自身的同时对社会文化、思想都产生了巨大影响。明话本小说"二拍"中多篇婚恋故事即以科举为背景,向我们形象的展示了其对于婚恋文化的影响。科举制明显作用于社会婚恋习俗,并将传统婚恋观念导入其控制之下,使与科举关系密切的女性皆以"科举成败"为标准,形成普遍的价值观。

The imperial examination system had continued for more than 1300 years from the beginning of the Sui Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. During the 1300 years, the system had been searching for the continuous improvement of itself, meanwhile greatly affecting the social culture and thought at that time. Numerous stories in the Ming Story-telling Scripts like ＂Er Pai＂ took the imperial examination as the back- ground that the stories took place. And these stories lively showed us the influence that imperial examination system exerted on the marriage culture in the social marriage custom and the traditional opioions about love and marriage. Thus it resulted in the fact that the women took as a criterion whether the men succeeded inthe examination, which had become the prevalently accepted value at that time.
