The paper introduced the synthesis processes of metal oxide nanoparticles by aqueous or nonaqueous sol-gel method and the main aspects influencing synthesis. A comparison of advantages and disadvantages between surfactant-directed approaches and solvent-controlled approaches was also discussed.
