The History,Status Quo and Prospect of Chinese Press in the Philippines

报刊是海外华侨、华人传承中华传统文化、保留华人特征的重要媒介,也是观察海外华人社会的重要窗口。菲律宾华文报业兴起于19世纪末,在20世纪50、60年代达到顶峰,70年代初受菲律宾政府的政策制约而陷入低谷,随后不久开始复苏,并于80年代奠定了今日之格局。经过近30年的发展,几家报刊有起有落,有喜有忧,这一切都与菲律宾华人社会近30年的变化休戚相关。

Press is an important way for overseas Chinese to maintain traditional culture and Chinese ethnicity,while providing us a window to look into the local Chinese society.The Philippine Chinese press emerged in the late 19th century,and reached it peak in 1950s and 1960s,and then went down to the bottom in the early 1970s due to the military control policy.It established today＇s layout in 1980s after a quick comeback.In the past 30 years,Chinese press has gone through ups and downs,tears and sorrows,which actually mirror the evolvement of the Chinese society in the Philippines.
