Who are the "Scythians"?——On the Scythians in Western Classic Literature

今人学者对斯基泰人有狭义和广义之说。在古典作家眼中,斯基泰人只是北方游牧民族的代称,其族群范围随记载者主观视野而变化。本文通过梳理史料,发现斯基泰人并非一个生物学意义上的血缘族群,而是一个部落联盟式的政治共同体。

The term ＂Scythian＂ has its narrow and broad use in today＇s literature.However,in western classic literature,Scythian was the proxy of northern nomadic people,and its component ethnic groups varied with different writers.By reviewing the classic literature,this paper concludes that Scythians are not kinship ethnic groups in the biological sense,rather a political community based on tribes.
