On Hemingway's Contradictory Ecological Thought in The Old Man and the Sea

《老人与海》作为最能体现海明威"冰山原则"的力作,其主题繁复多样。从生态批评视角解读作品,进而发现海明威生态思想的矛盾性——一方面宣扬人类中心主义的价值观,张扬对自然进行精神征服的"硬汉"精神;另一方面却肯定自然不可战胜,以狂妄自大的态度对待自然必然招致失败。海明威生态思想的矛盾性表现了现代人对自然与人的关系的困惑。

The Old Man snd the Sea,the best works of Hemingway’s＂iceberg writing principle＂,contains a variety of connotations.Reading it from the ecocritical point of view,the dualistic nature concept of Hemingway is discovered.On the one hand,he calls for the mental triumph of man over nature from the anthropocentric standpoint.On the other hand,he affirms that nature is unconquerable and should be cherished and denounces men’s ferocious dealing with nature.The paradox of Hemingway’s ecological thought is actually a reflection of the confusion of modern people when dealing with the relationship between man and nature.
