On Folklore Traits of Yi Traditional Torch Festival

火把节是彝族年度性重大传统节日。彝族传统火把节有敬天祭祖、占田祈丰、烧虫逐疫、叫魂赎魂四个民俗特征,富含深厚的文化意义。正是这些独特的民俗特征,一直源源不断地推动着彝族火把节的传承和发展,使火把节成为川滇黔桂四省区彝族文化认同的重要符号。彝族周期性地演述这些节日民俗特质,不断沟通天地人际关系,同时也规范着彝族社会。

Torch Festival is an annual traditional festival of Yi people.There are four folk traits rich in cultural significance,namely they are Heaven respect and ancestral sacrifice,farming auguries and harvest supplication,burning bugs and chasing epidemic,soul calling and redemption.It is the folk traits that continuously promote the development and inheritance of Yi Torch Festival,and make it an important symbol of cultural identity for Yi people inhabit in Sichuan,Yunnan,Guizhou and Guangxi.Yi people periodically perform these folk traits on Torch Festival to carry out the communications between both interpersonal and natural-humans relations.It also hereby regulates Yi communities.
