Virtual geographic environment（VGE） is a more advanced form of GIS geographic language in intelligence,networks and virtual reality,which includes space information expression and transmission functions of cartography and GIS.By combination of the writer＇s experience of teaching VGE,based on the concept and the brief history of it,discusses the necessity of setting it as an elective course for GIS discipline,and presents some advices.
