各绽奇葩 馥郁清香——浅析杨译霍译《红楼梦》第三回中之异同

《红楼梦》是中国的四大名著之一,在中国文学史上占有极其重要的地位,被誉为中国文化的百科全书。20世纪之后,我国古典文学名著《红楼梦》已有多种英译本陆续问世。其中,由我国翻译家杨宪益夫妇和英国学者霍克斯翻译的两个译本被誉为公认的传神佳作。它们各具特色,风格各异。针对杨、霍所译注的《红楼梦》第三回———贾雨村夤缘复旧职林黛玉抛父进京都,对比分析两种译文不同的翻译风格及技巧,探讨各自不同的翻译效果,试图挖掘它们背后的深层文化背景。

Hong Lou Meng,the greatest literary work in the history of Chinese and world literature,is acclaimed to be the peak of classic works in China and an encyclopedia of Chinese culture.Up to now,it has two unabridged English versions.One is Yang Xianyi＇s and Gladys Yang＇s A Dream of Red Mansions.The other is David Hawkes＇ The Story of the Stone.Both of the two are highly praised by translators and translation theorists.This paper makes a comparative analysis of the two versions of Chapter Three in the aspects of diction,sentence structure and paragraph organization.Readers＇ attention will be drawn to the similarities and differences between the two and their distinct cultural backgrounds.
