Bidungsroman,as a literary subgenre,has a strong tradition in the western literature.Chinese American writer Amy Tan′s second novel The Kitchen God′s Wife is a story about a woman growing up in the old days.She is greatly influenced by the guides either as positive characters or negative ones.During the way of struggling and the pursuit of self-identity,she undergoes the rites of growth and maturity,and gains epiphany about how to assure her identity.Therefore,it can be said that this novel is a typical Bidunstroman.
