Revelation of Objects Naming in Guangya Shuzheng(广雅疏证) from the Perspectives of Signifier,Referent and Meaning

从名、实、义关系角度看,《广雅疏证》所揭示的事物命名方式共有三种,即:1)以表示命名之义的词为"实"命名;2)以与表示命名之义的词音同或音近的另一个词为"实"命名;3)以同一个词或几个音同音近的词为命名之义相同或相近的几个不同的"实"命名。这些命名方式都反映了音与义结合的相对固定性在新词创造过程中的重要作用。

From the perspective of the relationship among signifier,referent and meaning,Guangya Shuzheng reveals three means of naming objects.The first way is to use the word which expresses the connotative meaning of an object.The second way is to use another word that has the same or similar pronunciation of a word which expresses the connotative meaning of an object.The third one is to use the same word or several words which have the same or similar pronunciations to name several objects that have the same or similar connotative meanings.These three means of naming things show that the relative fixation of pronunciation and meaning plays an important role in the creation of new words.
