“冰臼”与“壶穴”之争

A DISCUSSION ON “GLACIAL-MORTAR” AND “POT-HOLE”

对目前见诸报端的“冰臼”之说进行了讨论， 认为目前广东范围内所见之“冰臼”实际上是现代流水地貌之“壶穴”， 并指出， 以“冰臼”作轰动效应来吸引游客， 发展旅游业是不够严谨的。

It is reported recently that “large groups of paleo-glacial-mortars” were discovered in Fengshun, Meizhou. Some people consider that the mortars formed from Quarternary glaciation. In this paper, three groups of so-called “glacial-mortars” in Meizhou are investigated and compared with those in other places in Guangdong. The authors argue that the mortars are nor glacier but fluvial landform, as they are located at low latitudes, low altitudes, and develop on the basic rock of the river beds. They formed from the whirling currents of the rivers, and can be called “pot-holes”.
