摘要
Purpose This study was done to verify the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment on nasal obstruction caused by allergic rhinitis or rhinosinusitis, and to know the clinical effect of a novel acupuncture point named Sim-eui. Method Rhinitis patients with at least two visits to the hospital from September, 2009 to November, 2009 were randomized into either experiment or control group. The experiment group were treated with acupuncture on generally used points of rhinitis, that are GV 22, GV 23, GV 24, ST 8 (both sides), BL 2 (both sides), ST 4 (both sides), as well as Sim-eui point. The control group were treated with the general points and LI20(both sides) instead of Sim-eui point. Acupuncture needles were left in for 15 minutes for both groups. The initial and final symptom scores of SNOT-20 and a modified VAS were used to evaluate the effectiveness. The program used for statistical analysis was SPSS 15.0 for window. Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was done to analyze the intra-group symptom score change before and after treatment, and Mann-Whitney Test was used to compare inter-group VAS change. All the statistics were verified at a signifi cance level of 5%. Result The SNOT-20 scores before and after acupuncture treatment showed significant changes on both experiment and control groups, but there was no signifi cant difference between the two groups. All categories of the SNOT-20 showed signifi cant result, except the 'Wake up at night' and 'Lack of a good night's sleep' entries. The modifi ed VAS showed significant improvement of symptom in the experiment group compared with control group. Conclusion Acupuncture treatment using Sim-eui point seems to be helpful in improving quality of life by immediate relief of nasal obstruction.
