The interpretation of Chinese thought by Leibniz

从现代解释学的角度说,莱布尼茨对中国思想的阐释展示了不同历史传统与语境下的两种思想具有交流对话的一致基础。莱布尼茨在其中西文化交流观的基础上,利用西方哲学史、基督教发展史及其个人思想,对中国思想中的"理"、"气"、"太极"等基本概念的阐释,是为了证明中国思想与基督教具有相容性,从而为基督教适应中国文化的传教策略提供理论支持。

From the modern hermeneutic perspective, the interpretation of Chinese thought by Leibniz demonstrated that two kinds of ideas under different historical traditions and contexts have the basis for exchange and dialogue. In his concept of cultural exchange between China and the West, Leibniz used the history of Western philosophy, Christianity, and personal thinking to interpret the basic concepts in the Chinese thought like ＇ti＇ , ＇qi＇ , ＇Tai Chi＇ . The purpose of that was to prove the compatibility between Chinese thought and Christianity, which also offered the theoretical support for the Christian missionary strategy that should adapt to Chinese culture.
