This paper argues how the film of ＂Slumdog Millionaire＂ achieves novel and appealing effect out of a banal story of a poor youth turning rich and winning his sweetheart by employing such techniques of defamiliarization as delaying the outset,juxtapositioning three narrative threads,establishing strong contrast,challenging conventional expectancy and exhibiting exotic atmosphere.
