《红楼梦》英译一直得到学界的关注,特别是杨宪益、霍克斯的译本多年来成为评论的焦点。分析杨、霍译本《红楼梦》第三回英译,应当说,与原文相比,两种译本在章回题目、人物塑造、文化转换等方面,仍然有值得商榷的地方。

The English translation of Dream of Red Mansions has been concern of the academic circle.It versions by Yang Xianyi and Hawkes has become the focus of comment for many years.This paper analyses the translation of Chapter three of Dream of Red Mansions translated by Yang Xian-yi and Hawkes and concludes that both versions remain to be improved in the light of titles,figure creation and cultural conversion.
