VOD System Based on Broadband Multimedia Communications Network

视频点播系统涉及数据压缩、数据传输、软件制作及数据库管理等多种技术.近年来,国内外电信部门利用不对称数字用户线及光纤到路边或到大楼等网络、有线电视公司利用光纤同轴混合网络进行视频点播实验.江苏宽带多媒体通信网上开通了基于ATM、不对称数字用户线及以太网的视频服务系统.这些实验表明,视频点播系统在视频服务器、资料压缩储存、操作界面等方面仍需改进,机顶盒的关键技术需制定国际标准,网络管理也有待改进.

Video On Demand system involves multiple technologies including data compression, data transmission, software making and database management. In recent years, VOD trials have been conducted by domestic and foreign telecom organizations using ADSL, FTTC or FTTB technologies and by some cable TV companies using HFC networks. A VOD system has also been opened on the broadband multimedia communication network in Jiangsu province based on ATM, ADSL and Ethernet. All these experiments show that improvement still need to be made on video server, material compression and storage and the operating interface of VOD system. Besides that, international standardization for STB key technologies and improvement for the network management are needed.
