Based on Ginkgo materials from Guilin of Guangxi,Hefei of Anhui and Shenyang of Liaoning, the authors studied the response of Ginkgo to climatic condition in different climatic zones through the contrast of microscopic morphological characters of Ginkgo leaves and petioles. The results show that some microscopic characters varied greatly in different climatic zones. The stomatal length and the ratio of length to width of guard cells decreased with the increase of latitude, and the anticlinal wall width, the ratio of length to width of ordinary epidermal cells and the width of guard cells increased with the increase of latitude. These characteristics changes may respond to the variations of temperature and precipitation of their living environment, which benefits the study of paleoclimate indicated by fossil Ginkgo through the geological time.
