西部大开发是我国21世纪发展的一项重大任务,是实现国家现代化建设第三步战略目标的重大部署;阐述了西部高校图书馆为地方经济建设提供信息服务的必要性,并结合西部地区的发展现状和资源优势,提出了开展信息服务的举措;探讨了西部地区高校图书馆如何发挥社会职能为地区经济建设提供信息服务的途径。

Western Development is an important task in China＇ s development of the 21s＇ century and is a great strategy for realizing the third step of China＇ s modernization. This paper expounds the necessity for western college libraries to provide information service for local economic construction, gives the measures for information service based on development situation and resources advantage of west areas, and discusses the methods that west college libraries use social duty to provide information service for local economic construction.
