Since the American scholar Wayne C. Booth put forth the conception of the "implied author", it has soon caused great responses in the circle of narrative theory and is now widely accepted as true, though not without doubt. But the author of the present paper thinks the "implied author" is at most only a hypothesis, not yet a scientific definition. The paper traces the origin of the conception and its subsequent problems and controversies. It proves through many examples that the "implied author" does not exist and comes from nowhere, therefore this pseudo conception will not help in analysing the texts and should be cast away.
