玛丽安·莫尔是美国20世纪最伟大的女诗人之一。她在诗歌创作上兼收并蓄,既固守英美文学传统,继承17世纪英国作家培根与班扬以及19世纪美国作家爱伦.坡和爱默生的创作理念,又兼收中国传统文化,竭力从中国绘画、文学与道家思想中探寻创作源泉;既注重意象主义的创作技巧,又吸收立体派采用的‘拼贴’与达达派推崇的‘并置’等现代视觉艺术的表现手法。传统与现代元素在她的诗歌中完美地融合在一起,从而使她的诗歌在现代美国诗坛上独树一帜。
Marianne Moore is one of the greatest poetesses in the 20th America. Her poetic creation inherits the concepts of traditional literary creating of the 17th British writers Bacon and Bunyan as well as the 19th American writers Edgar Allan Poe and Emerson, tries to explore the sources of poetic creation from traditional Chinese paintings, literature and Taoism, incorporates the creative techniques of the imagism, and is deeply influenced by the clear styles of modern visual arts of "collage" used by Cubism and "juxtaposition" advocated by Dadaism. The traditional and modern elements are incorporated perfectly in her poetry. As'a result, her poetry has enjoyed a unique position in modern American poetry.
