Coexisting of Chinese Tradition and Western Influences on Public Libraries from 1901-1911

自清末新政至辛亥革命10年间是中国近代公共图书馆产生的时期。该时期中国公共图书馆的理论和实践是由西方图书馆观念与中国传统藏书观念会通揉合的产物,对中西观念所起的影响和作用均应给予客观公正的评价。针对学界长期存在的尚西蔑中偏向,本文对历史史实进行了认真地梳理和分析。其目的对中西文化交流具有恢复历史公允和促进未来发展的双重意义。

Modern Chinese libraries had been established almost in 10 years from 1901 to 1911, during which the ancient Chinese tradition Concept of book - collecting and the contemporary western library concept have coexisted and influenced the theory and practice of modern Chinese library reform then. Due to the traditional view of the contemporary western library concept influencing much more on the theory and practice of modern Chinese library reform than the ancient Chinese book - collecting tradition, this paper aims to reclaim this prejudice by systemizing and analyzing the historical events and facts, and gives an impartial judge, as well as promotes the development of communications between China and western countries in the future.
