On the Lexicalization and Related Problems of Dongjing

"动静"先由词组时的"行动和止息"义演变为概括性的"行为举止"义;然后在组合关系变化的推动下,进一步转指为"‘行为举止’的情况"义,并最终泛化为"(探察的)情况"义,从而完成了词汇化。"动静"词汇化的意义是由"动"、"静"共同参与形成的,偏义成词说并不成立。

The meaning of Dongjing gradually deviates from its original phrasal meaning of ＂movement and stillness＂ into the more general meaning of ＂activity＂. With the changes of syntagmatic relations, the meaning of ＂activity＂ develops into that of ＂general situation of activity＂, which in turn develops into the meaning of ＂situations（ spied or investigated）＂. Thus, its lexicalization is finished. The meaning of the lexicalized Dongjing is formed by the participation of both Dong and Jing; the viewpoint that Dongjing lexicalized by losing the meaning of Jing is untenable.
