摘要
本文以十年为一个时间段,回顾了作为一种专业研究领域的二语写作从1950年到2009年的发展历程,重点研究其21世纪开端十年,即2000年至今的发展动态。历程回顾从三方面进行:(1)以十年为一个时间段,统计并比较了学术期刊、书的章节、书(编著和专著)及学位论文所发表的二语写作的研究成果;(2)描述了二语写作的研究焦点、其他学科对该学科的影响、研究范式、实验设计及教学方法;(3)从相关专业组织、学术会议、学术期刊和系列丛书出版几个方面综观二语写作研究的全球形势,着重关注北美地区和亚洲地区。笔者认为,二语写作领域的发展体现在其日趋专业化、多元化、兼收并蓄的研究方法上;今后的任务是为二语写作理论提供多语研究成果的支持,并使研究项目更连贯合理、更有延展性。笔者还关注获取研究成果的途径,指出通过翻译研究成果可以使其更加便利。笔者相信,二语写作研究是一个动态发展并不断成熟的研究领域,未来将持续发展。
This paper traces the development of second language writing as a professional discipline from 1950 to 2009,providing a decade by decade account with a special emphasis on the period from 2000 to the present,the first decade of the twenty-first century.It does this primarily in three ways:(1)by quantifying and comparing,decade by decade and overall,publication in second language writing studies in terms of journal articles,book chapters,books(edited and authored)and dissertations;(2)by characterizing the foci of inquiry in the field,the influence that other disciplines have had on work in second language writing studies,the paradigms of inquiry used in the field,its empirical research designs,and its approaches to instruction;and(3)by examining second language writing studies' infrastructure in terms of its relationships to relevant professional organizations,professional conferences and symposia,journals,and book series in its international context,with special emphasis on North America and Asia.The article addresses advances in the field,reflected in its principled,pluralistic,and eclectic approaches to issues,and the field's challenges,including the provision of a multilingual basis for second language writing theory and the formation of more coherent and extended programs of research.Finally,the article takes a close look at issues with regard to access to scholarship and the possibilities of translation with regard to increasing this access.It is concluded that second language writing studies is a dynamic,growing,and maturing area of research and will continue as such for the foreseeable future.
