A New Explanation of "the White Horse Being Not a Horse"

"白马非马"是中国名学史乃至中国思想史上一个久悬未决的公案。传统上对它的解释都过于牵强,无法令人信服。在充分阅读《战国策》文本和对战国年间思想状况深入理解的基础上,提出战国时代的"白马非马"其实是一个非常朴素的话语。它的本意是:"白马"指的是"白马"这个地方而不是真正的马。这表明传统上以为是战国公孙龙所著的《公孙龙子》极有可能是后人的托附。

＂The White Horse being not A Horse＂ is a very famous saying in Zhan-guo period.The traditional explanations about it are all unconvincing.I propose that this famous statement is only a normal saying.It means that the ＂white horse＂ is a name of a place,so it does not denote a real horse.This paper can prove that Gongsunlongzi is not a book written by Gongsunlong of Zhanguo period.
