叶适的"复礼"说建立在经验人性论的哲学基础之上,这与当时的儒学主流思潮性命之学适成鲜明的对比。性命学者在形而上倡导"成圣"之学,目的是为了从终极意义上解决人生"安身立命"的问题;而叶适的"复礼"说,其目的是为了在现实的生活世界中提升人生的经验能力,塑造完美人格,因而更贴近现实人生,亦更具实践意义。

Ye Shi＇s theory of ＂Observing the Proprieties＂ is based on the philosophy of experiential theory of human nature,which constituted a sharp contrast with the then dominant Confucian theory of mind and body.The former was aimed to improve people＇s experiential ability in life and mould a sound personality while the latter was to deal with the issue of ＂settling down and pursuing a career＂ in advocating metaphysically the idea of ＂becoming a sage＂.Therefore,Ye Shi＇s theory proves to be closer to life and has more practical significance.
