Medical Interpretation in the U.S. and Its Implications for China

作为移民大国,美国的医疗口译兴起有其历史必然性。20多年来,医疗口译在美国经历了职业化过程的各个方面,行业日趋完善。中国近年来的经济繁荣、外来人口的涌入对医疗口译的发展提出了要求。中国医疗口译的职业化,可以从美国的实践经验中得到借鉴。

The U. S. , as a big country of immigrants, is endowed with historical climate for the rise of medical interpretation. The last 20-odd years has witnessed the full American process of professionalization and progression of medical interpretation in the country. With the economic prosperity, China has attracted a big inflow of overseas population, thus giving rise to the need for medical interpretation. It is suggested that China learn from the American experience in professionalizing medical interpretation.
