Public opinion is closely connected with the formulation and implementation of a country's foreign policy. Among Western academic circles, realism and liberalism are two major schools which have divergent views on the relations between public opinion and the foreign policy. Knowing the essential viewpoints of two schools of thought will do something to understand to what extent public opinion exerts influence and how it produces such influences on a country's foreign policy.
