"A Passage to India" ,a masterpiece of modem British writer E. M. Forster,is about the India under the Raj in early 20th century. Ronny and Adela, two figures in the novel, represent two moral tendencies. The former adheres to the colonialist moral system, while the latter rebels against that moral system. The two figures are respectively the representative and ender of the colonialist moral system. Through the two figures, the novel shows the main aspects of the colonialist moral system and its fate of destruction. Ronny and Adela,as a result of their moral and political differences ,cannot be united in marriage.
