In Nikolai Gogol's masterpiece entitled Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka, the demons and witches, originating from Ukrainian folks and legends, all have magic power. These illusionary and mysterious images turn out to be the "intruders" in daily life, which leads normal daily life to absurdity. With these images, the author finds convenience in presenting and exposing the nature of real life. In his later works, Gogol expands the thematic concern and enhances the realistic nature in his writing. The "intruders" are not demons and witches any more, but rather mysterious objects and real human beings. These images, half-real and half-illusionary, frequently appear in Gogol's works, which characterizes not only Gogol's narrative mode but also his literary creation.
