Uspensky is a famous Russian linguist, semiologist and literary theorist, another important leader and founder of the Tartu-Moscow school. This paper introduces Uspensky＇s academic activities in the Tartu-Moscow school, reviews and analyzes the Tartu-Moscow school＇s political and cultural background, origin of its name and its unique academic research style, and at the same time, from the angle of history of Russian culture, points out that the Tartu-Moscow school is the product of collision and fusion of Russia＇s two polar cultures.
