The spinnability of mesophase pitch(MP) is the main influence factor in manufacturing high performance carbon fiber(HPCE). The control parameters must be chosen correctly in normal production. In this article, the rheologi- cal characteristic in spinning of MP was discussed and a method to evaluate spinnability of MP has been obtained, According to the shear and elongational vosicosity, the spinnability and the spinning temperature range of MP can be determined. Compared with the empirical method, the new method over- comes the shortcoming of randomness and has some guidance and reference value in manufacture of HPCF.
