This paper is a tentative study of applying relevance theory.It is powerful in explaining English conversational humor.The utterance with humor is confirmed to the optimal relevance,and relevance theory offers the understanding model with humor utterance.The smaller effort,the less relevance,which is the key of humor utterance in production and understanding.
