汉语散体译为英语诗体转换研究——以霍译《红楼梦》为例

A Study of Translation from Chinese Prose into English Poem:Examples from The Story of the Stone by David Hawkes

以诗译诗是常见的做法,把诗体译为散体也不鲜见,如朱生豪把莎剧中的诗体译为散体;翁显良把汉诗译为散体等,但把汉语散体译为英语诗体的人却很少,大卫.霍克斯是其中一位。在英译《红楼梦》时,他将散体译为诗体。转换梯度为由易至难;转换对象为体裁类似、细节描绘、俗语谚语;转换体式为文体众备。

It is well-known that Chinese poems can be translated into English poems and that poem can be translated into prose.For example,Zhu Sheng-hao translated some poems from Shakespeare plays into Chinese prose,and Weng Xian-liang Chinese poems into English prose.However,David Hawkes was special in that he translated Chinese prose into English poems.In terms of such practice,this paper argues that translation grading is from simplicity to complexity,that translation objects are similar in genre,description in detail,old sayings and proverbs,and that all genres are contained in translation.
